Google ended support for the Google Keep Chrome app in February 2021, though Google Keep itself will continue to be accessible though other apps and directly in web browsers. Note: Installing Google Chrome will add the Google repository so your system will automatically keep Google Chrome up to date. If you don’t want Google's repository, do “sudo touch /etc. Keep works on your phone, tablet and computer. Everything you add to Keep syncs across your devices so your important stuff is always with you. Syncing across your devices requires internet.

Earlier this year, Google set a final deprecation timeline for Chrome Apps. Ahead of that, the Google Keep Chrome app will stop working in February.

The Google Keep Chrome app, available from the Web Store, can appear in the Chrome OS shelf or on Mac/Windows docks, while featuring an optimized single-column view. Today, it started displaying a pink “Keep will be moving from the Chrome app to your browser soon” banner. In addition to a “Learn more” support document, users have the option to “Update to keep.google.com.”

Existing users who have Chrome version 86 or newer will be able to migrate to keep.google.com by following instructions in the Chrome App. The Keep Chrome app on your desktop will be replaced by a shortcut launcher, which will allow you to launch keep.google.com by simply clicking on the icon on your desktop.

The help article says that “support ends” in February 2021 as part of the broader web technologies transition. As a result, you’ll no longer be able to view notes on your computer without an active internet connection. Offline access will be restricted to the Android and iOS clients.

Additionally, “access to Keep on your Chrome OS lock screen will no longer be available.” This was particularly useful for touchscreen Chromebooks with styli. It allowed for quick note-talking without having to first log-in.

Google is officially pointing new users to the Keep website and advising them to create a simple bookmark. On Chrome OS, you can tap the overflow menu > More tools > Create shortcut.

Google today also rolled out the new Google Keep icon to the web. It’s not yet available on the mobile apps.

Google Chrome is the preferred desktop browser for the majority of folks. Consumers also prefer to use Google services such as Gmail, Google News, and Google Search for queries, research, and projects. While Google Search is the default option on Google Chrome, we have seen Google Chrome reports automatically changing search engine to Yahoo. It can be annoying as Yahoo offers inferior search results compared to Google.

There are multiple reasons behind the behavior. Someone might have changed the default browser on Chrome. The prime factor behind the search engine change is browser hijacking code or extensions.

Browser hijackers are a constant threat to millions of users around the world. Some browsers are more prone to them, some less, and some, a minority, basically can’t be affected. It also depends on the user. If you have a practice of installing random apps from the web, then some PUAs (Potentially Unwanted Applications) might take over device applications and change settings.

This post will explain how to avoid and fix the Google Chrome search engine changing to Yahoo. Let’s get started with a simple troubleshooting trick.

Extensions play a vital role in the Chrome ecosystem. Using extensions, one can add more features to the basic Chrome interface and functionality. However, some might not be actively maintained, could be out of date, or develop incompatibilities with new Chrome builds. Some malicious extensions might be preferring Yahoo search engine instead of Google.

This virus or malware works by redirecting your browser to multiple sites and then deposing you onto the Yahoo site. The hackers generate revenue from clicks and even collect personal data and track your internet activity.

Google Chrome does offer an integrated anti-malware scanner that will scan your computer and find any problems.

If you are still experiencing issues after the Google Chrome malware scan, then try using Microsoft Defender on Windows 10 scan. As you may know, Microsoft Defender is Microsoft’s built-in solution to remove malware from the device.

Open Windows Defender (now Microsoft Defender) and use the Quick scan option to identify any harmful elements on the device. You can also opt for the full PC scan, but it might take a long time depending on the device's storage.
